Basics of Online Gin
If you intend to enjoy and succeed in playing
online gin rummy games, the
first thing you have to do is still to familiarize yourself with all
the basic rules in gin rummy. Gin rummy is definitely the most
popular rummy game variation around. It is a game meant to be played
by two players, but if you are playing online, you can find some
games that allow up to four or even more players. The basic gin
rummy game uses a standard 52-card deck, jokers excluded, but you
may also come across some online games that use more than just one
deck of cards. The values of the cards, however, remain unchanged.
In most, if not all, gin rummy games, whether in actual and online,
the face cards have high values, with the King the highest, and the
ace cards are low cards. The face cards are valued at ten points
each, while the ace cards are rated at 1 point each.
The game begins with each player getting ten cards
each. The remaining cards on the deck make up the stock pile. The
card dealt after the players’ cards is the first card of the discard
pile. As you probably already know, the objective is to get the most
scores in one game of gin rummy. You can win scores by winning the
rounds, and you can win the rounds by getting the lowest deadwood
counts after you meld your cards into sets and runs. Every player
will be given several turns in a round, and in each turn, he needs
to draw a card either from the stock or the discard pile. The
discard pile is exposed, while the stock pile remains facedown all
throughout the game. Aside from that, he needs to meld his cards
then decide which card to let go of before his turn ends. The same
game process is retained in most online gin rummy games.
Winning in Online Gin
Winning in online gin is just the same as winning in
the real gin game. Most gin rummy games on the Internet also have
the knocking, underknocking, and going gin winning strategies. So
you can knock when you think your deadwood count is the lowest that
it can get. Aside from that, you can underknock or undercut when
your deadwood count is actually lower than the count of the player
who knocked. Finally, you can go gin when you are able to meld all
your cards. All these strategies can be used in most online games of
gin, although there are some gin rummy variations that have special
rules on knocking.
Two Top Variations of Online Gin
The two top variations of online gin, however, are the
exact same top variations in the real gin rummy world. These are the
Oklahoma version of gin rummy and the Hollywood gin. Hollywood gin
has basically the same set of rules, but differs from the
traditional form of gin rummy because of a different scoring system.
In Hollywood gin, three different games will be scored
simultaneously, with the first win recorded in game 1, the second in
game 1 and 2, and the third and all succeeding wins in game 3. In
Oklahoma gin, on the other hand, the number of knocks the players
are allowed to make depends on the value of the upcard. So this
means that if the upcard is an ace, the players can only knock once
throughout the entire game. There are many other modifications done
to the basic gin rummy game when it was brought to the online gaming
arena. This means that you can enjoy many different variants of the
game online that you’d never have to get bored at home anymore.
Online Gin in More Forms
Aside from the widely popular Oklahoma gin and
Hollywood gin, there is still an even wider range of online gin
games around. If you love this game, you’ll definitely check out
these many other gin rummy variations, starting with Double gin,
which is also called Doubling gin or Open gin. This particular game
variant makes the game a little trickier. Some part of the game is
based on the doubling cube in a Backgammon game. This basically
means that before a player draws a card, he can challenge his
opponent to double the points for that hand. In this game, the
undercut or underknock move is also not significant. Also, the total
winning point in this variant is 200 points instead of the usual
100. Another version of the game is Cutthroat, which, by the name
alone, sounds a whole lot more exciting than the regular form of the
game. The game allows three different players to be in the game, but
only two can actively play in each round. The Chouette is similar to
Cutthroat in this aspect, while the Battle Royal Gin Rummy is a
variant that allows three active players all at once.
